Project: Bid support video for NTT Data

Calm heads make light work of a high-stakes shoot

Preparing the bid and presentation material for a new business pitch is always a fraught time for sales. They need people they can trust to crack on and deliver assets, leaving the team free to work on strategy and rehearse for the big presentation. So who you gonna call?

When NTT Data wanted a video to support a major bid, they knew exactly who to call.

[avia_codeblock_placeholder uid="0"]

We needed to organise an on-location video shoot at offices in Bucharest, where we would be interviewing several managers, trainers, HR professionals and service-desk agents to convey the essence of NTT Data’s multilingual helpdesk service.

All at incredibly short notice, of course.

We knew that it was just as important to offer an oasis of calm as to get the job done. Our experienced content team got on the case, preparing a briefing document and shot list that helped everyone make the most of the day – vital when there’s no chance for a second take. And our on-site crew are used to thinking on their feet to make the most of locations when gathering footage to support the messaging and overall premise. From start to finish in under three weeks, the team pulled together to deliver a powerful introduction to the talented team and capable processes offered by NTT Data.

Working with Carey and her team at HN Marketing has been brilliant. We knew we were in safe hands from day one. They ran with a high- level concept and were able to work out all the details without much intervention from us. Yet, we had complete visibility into the process and had opportunities to control the outcome. The end result was fantastic and far exceeded our expectation.

Project: E-learning video scripts

Combining learning and entertainment in beautifully crafted copy

Who do you turn to when you need help refreshing and updating detailed, mission-critical content? A major e-learning content provider was looking to totally re-invigorate its training content to improve student engagement to drive better learning outcomes — and business value — for its customers.

There was a punishing deadline, but with our talent for telling a great story that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats, HN Marketing stepped up to the challenge.

As part of a larger project, we developed scripts and storyboards for 2 hours’ worth of content that couldn’t be handled by in-house staff writers. This included dialogue for actors in scenarios, presenter pieces to camera and voice-overs for animation. The key to creating effective learning content is to make it memorable – so, after digesting source material and reading around the topic to get up to speed with the subject matter and learning messages, we put our content heads on and planned out storyboards and scripts that would create engaging e-learning videos.

It took some long working days to keep on track, but the final scripts and storyboards were well received. In fact, we’re now the preferred partner for creating content for new training programmes.

Project: PartnerTV supporting B2B sales enablement

Inspiring and informing partners

Strong communication is at the heart of all trusted relationships and never more so than when collaborating with channel partners. FireEye works hard to win the hearts and minds of its channel sales teams and make sure that the communication they deliver is inspiring and informative.

We’re working with the channel marketing team at FireEye to devise the communications assets that they share with their channel sales teams. These assets keep them informed about customer issues and challenges, and equip them to have productive conversations that will lead to a sale. As part of the communications package we deliver:

  • Articles and social posts for nurturing conversations with customers.
  • A playbook giving partner sales all the information they need to position the solutions and overcome objections.
  • A ‘Business TV‘-style video with interviews and solution explainers, delivered with high-quality production values.

The assets are made available through the FireEye partner portal and both the takeup statistics and anecdotal evidence point to the success of the approach.

Project: Partner Marketing Playbook VideoScribe

Sparkling video with a tight turnaround

Video assets can be powerful and fun to watch. But they’re often slow to make, which can be a problem — as it was for EMC when they wanted to create a VideoScribe announcing the launch of a new partner marketing portal. So they gave the challenge to us, and we immediately got to work solving it.

We needed to take all the elements of video production — scripting, storyboarding, animating and the approvals for each of these elements — and compress them into one-and-a-half weeks: without compromising on quality. It took a few late nights, some tense phone calls and the fastest fingers our creative team had, but we made the deadline for EMC – with time left over to create a page banner for them too. End result: a happy client and a happy (if tired!) content team.

Picture this story: you’ve just finished a pitch, and it’s gone well. The team in the room are smiling enthusiastically, keen to start enjoying the benefits of the solution you’ve outlined in your presentation. Everyone sees the logic of it, and they’re all agreed that it’s the best way forward.

But you know the business doesn’t get closed here today: there are other stakeholders who need to give it the nod before the project gets the green light. You ask when you can get in front of those stakeholders so you can win them over. “Why not send me the slides?” your contact offers. “I’ve got 5 minutes at the management meeting next week and can run through your presentation then.”

Actually, you can think of lots of ‘why nots’ but none of them can be voiced without destroying the positivity surrounding the end of the meeting. Will your contact present with sufficient vigour? Will they connect your proposition with the business challenges cleanly? Do they know enough about how your solution stacks up against competitive offerings to handle likely objections? Just like that, the risk of the wheels coming off your sale can start to feel huge.

What do you do? To refuse to give over your slides to a staunch supporter feels churlish. You could offer to be there — at least in a supporting role — but if that’s not possible or appropriate, then there is another way: you could capture the sales pitch and deliver it as a complete package that your contact can share.

Capture the power of your pitch in video format
There are multiple tools out there that will let you turn your presentation into a video for just that purpose. Even if you have to cut it down to get your message across in the allotted time, doing this means that you retain full control of your value proposition and how it’s presented to those stakeholders, instead of trusting your contact to do your job for you. And don’t panic – it is possible to condense your proposal into 5 minutes without losing impact; we’ve done it with clients who needed to distil their presentation down to the core of what makes them special, and deliver it within a strict time limit, and it’s worked.

To successfully turn your presentation into a video, you’ll need to finely tune your script — just winging it in front of a mic won’t work, no matter how good you are — and use one of the aforementioned tools to layer that audio track over your slides (our favourite is Camtasia, but there are plenty out there). If you’ve got the time, you could even appear on the video in person so your audience can see who’s doing the talking.

Have you tried turning your presentations into videos? Do you think it works? Get in touch on Twitter, LinkedIn or in the comments section and let us know what you think.
